Five Australian organisations have been rewarded and recognised for innovation in the fields of civil security and community protection, at the CivSec 2018 Congress and Exposition in Melbourne.
The CivSec 2018 Innovation Awards were presented in five categories, from 11 finalists.
Innovation Award for Cyber Security:
Fivecast Pty Ltd, for automated collection, storage and analysis of high volume open source information.
Innovation Award for Physical Security and Policing:
Intelligent Security Australia, for its mobile, Wi-Fi and cloud-enabled surveillance system.
Innovation Award for Disaster Relief, Emergency Management and Humanitarian Services:
DST and University of Melbourne, for novel methods of surveillance and prediction of disease outbreaks in real time.
National Innovation Award:
DST and University of Melbourne, for novel methods of surveillance and prediction of disease outbreaks in real time.
SME Innovation Grant For Civil Security ($15,000 grant):
Intelligent Security Integration Australia for mobile, Wi-Fi and cloud-enabled surveillance system.
High Commendations were also awarded in two categories:
Innovation Award for Cyber Security: High Commendation:
Droneshield Limited, for its Drone Gun Tactical to disrupt potentially threatening drone operations.
Innovation Award for Disaster Relief, Emergency Management and Humanitarian Services: High Commendation:
Zirkarta, for its cloud-based, automatically updated shared mapping system for fire and emergency services.
These Awards have been developed by the national not-for-profit foundation, Industry Defence and Security Australia Limited (IDSAL), which presents the biennial CIVSEC 2018 Congress on civil security as well as the biennial Pacific International Maritime Exposition in Sydney and the Land Forces International Exposition in Adelaide.
“The awards are aligned with the foundation’s mission to promote the development of Australia’s industry capacity and capability in the humanitarian and security fields,” said IDSAL CEO Ian Honnery.
“Civil security is a very diffuse field that embraces everything from cyber and transport security to policing, border protection, counter-terrorism, disaster relief and emergency management. We want to recognise the skills and expertise that exist within Australia and reward the highly innovative work which is being undertaken by Australian companies and individuals.”

The CIVSEC 2018 Congress and Exposition is an international industry and technology exhibition, strategic summit and congress of specialist conferences and symposia, covering a broad spectrum of civil security, policing, homeland security, border protection, resource and infrastructure protection, emergency management, disaster response and humanitarian assistance. It is being held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Conference Centre from 1-3 May 2018.
