The not-for-profit organisation behind the Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition has added a new string to its bow.
Its latest venture is CIVSEC, will be a major showcase of expertise, ideas and technology in the fields of civil security and civil defence.
The event will be a congress of conferences, seminars and workshops that will address the complex and increasingly important challenges of border control, law and order, terrorism prevention and disaster response and relief management.
The CIVSEC conference schedule will offer specialist insights on how we deal with the protection of people and communities and safeguard vital infrastructure and resources.
This powerful forum will bring together experts, innovators and government professionals from throughout Australia, the Indo-Asia-Pacific region and indeed the world.

In all there are 12 conferences, symposia and workshops on the CIVSEC agenda.
They will feature a range of quality speakers and presenters from home and abroad.
Examples of the conferences are
- Optimising multi-Agency Crisis Response – Chaired by Dr Alan Ryan, Executive Director of the Australian Civil-Military Centre.
- Counter Terrorism and Policing Seminar – Chaired by Associate Professor Nick O’Brien, Head of the Graduate School of Policing and Security Charles Sturt University.
- Critical Infrastructure Protection – Chaired by Mr Greg Tyrrell, Australian Association of Unmanned Systems

CIVSEC 2016 will be unique in that it will be the first event of its kind ever staged in Australia.
As such it will draw a wide range of participants and conference delegates from throughout Australia, the Indo-Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere overseas.

CIVSEC organiser, the Aerospace Maritime and Defence Foundation of Australia Limited is known internationally for its flagship defence technology events such as the Airshow, the Pacific International Maritime Exposition and the Land Forces Expo.
Like those events its new venture will be held biennially and entrance to the conferences, seminars and workshops will be free of charge, though limited, to bona fide practitioners and professionals.
Foundation CEO Ian Honnery said CIVSEC is a natural adjunct to the organisation’s other major defence-related events.

CIVSEC 2016 will be held in the Melbourne C convention and Exhibition Centre on the southern bank of the city’s iconic Yarra River.
This venue is just 20 minutes drive from Melbourne airport and a short stroll from the city centre.
Cafes and an eclectic range of bars and restaurants can be found nearby as can many of the city’s major galleries and museums.
The MCEC is the only centre in Australia to offer on-site accommodation with the five-star Hilton Melbourne South Wharf directly connected to the venue via internal walkway.
You will find the Melbourne C convention and Exhibition Centre is the perfect location for such an important international event.
CIVSEC 2016 will be held on level one of the Centre.
